This review uses HireVue's own website, its G2 and Capterra pages and each alternative's pricing page, all checked in October 2026. We did not run a paid HireVue account.
What is HireVue?
HireVue is a hiring platform for large employers, founded in 2004. It started with recorded video interviews and now covers most of the steps between an application and an offer. HireVue says it has hosted more than 70 million interviews, and IKEA is among its named customers.
HireVue bought Modern Hire in 2023. Reviews on G2 from former Modern Hire users now describe the HireVue platform.
Who uses HireVue?
HireVue sells to large employers. Its site says 40% of the Fortune 100 use it, and names IKEA, Nestlé, Swire Coca-Cola and AdventHealth as customers.
It groups its customers by five kinds of hiring: hourly and high-volume, early career and campus, technical, professional, and internal moves. Its industry pages cover financial services, hospitality, manufacturing, tech and telecom, the public sector, retail, healthcare and staffing firms.
The reviews on G2 match that picture. One candidate describes using HireVue for internship and graduate interviews at investment banks in New York.
How HireVue Works
HireVue works in five steps.
- Your team builds an interview from its own questions or from one of HireVue's interview guides.
- Candidates get an invitation and answer on demand, or book a live slot themselves.
- Candidates can take an assessment or a game-based test as part of the same process.
- Recruiters and hiring managers review the answers with HireVue's evaluation tools.
- Results go back to your applicant tracking system (ATS).
HireVue is free for candidates, and reviewers say candidates can record practice answers before the real interview.
What is HireVue like for candidates?
Candidates pay nothing and can interview at any hour from a computer, tablet or phone. HireVue's candidate guide gives these details.
- An on-demand interview usually has five to eight questions, with several minutes to answer each one.
- HireVue tells candidates to set aside 45 minutes.
- If the connection drops, the candidate picks up where they left off with the same link. HireVue recommends a connection of at least 350 Kbps.
- A candidate who needs an accommodation asks the recruiter or the hiring team.
- HireVue states that hiring decisions are made by people, and that it never uses the video recording to identify a candidate.
- The employer decides how long the recording is kept. A candidate who wants it deleted asks the employer.

HireVue is best at three things.
Hiring at enterprise volume
HireVue is built for employers with thousands of applicants. One customer quoted on its site describes about 250,000 applications handled by 60 recruiters.
Interviews and assessments in one process
A candidate can record answers, take a skills assessment and play a game-based test without leaving HireVue. Few smaller tools cover all three.
Ready-made interview content
HireVue offers more than 1,000 job-specific interview guides, which it says are maintained by industrial and organisational psychologists.

HireVue's features fall into six groups.
Video interviews
Candidates answer preset questions on demand, or meet interviewers live. Live interviews run inside HireVue or through Zoom, Teams or Webex.
Assessments and game-based tests
HireVue sells assessments, an assessment builder, game-based assessments, language assessments and virtual job tryouts, where a candidate tries tasks from the real job.
AI Interviewer
The AI Interviewer holds a two-way conversation with the candidate at any hour and asks follow-up questions. Qualification questions are scored as "Meets" or "Does Not Meet". Skill questions are scored from 1 to 5 against a rubric you set or one of HireVue's validated competencies. It runs in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and candidates can opt out.
Scores and a transcript land in your ATS, and the recruiter decides the next step.
Candidate matching and messaging
A chat agent on your careers site asks candidates about themselves and points them to the role that fits. HireVue also messages candidates by SMS and WhatsApp.
Interview guides
There are more than 1,000 job-specific interview guides, so hiring managers ask the same structured questions for the same role.
Scheduling and automation
Candidates book their own interview from the shared, real-time availability of recruiters and hiring managers, and invitations go out by email or SMS. HireVue also schedules hiring events with many candidates, roles and interviewers.
Rules can move candidates forward without a recruiter touching them. HireVue's example is that every candidate who scores above 80% moves to the next stage. Recruiters can also act on many candidates at once.
Reviewers like the self-scheduling. Several want more control over it, as covered in the complaints below.
Fraud checks and security
HireVue lists cheating and fraud mitigation as a platform tool, and names SOC, ISO and FedRAMP under security. FedRAMP is the US government's cloud security standard, which matters to public sector buyers.
Integrations
HireVue says it works with more than 45 applicant tracking systems. Its integrations page names twelve partners: Workday, SAP, Oracle and Taleo, SmartRecruiters, PageUp, iCIMS, Eightfold, Avature, Infinite (BrassRing), Greenhouse, Oleeo and Cornerstone. It reports more than 140 live customers on the Workday integration, more than 100 on Oracle and Taleo, and 50 on SAP.
Support
HireVue offers 24/7 customer support in more than 20 languages. One G2 reviewer praises its team from implementation through to ongoing support.
How does HireVue's AI work?
HireVue's AI does three jobs. The AI Interviewer runs screening interviews at any hour. Live interviews get summaries and scores, and an interview co-pilot can join a Zoom or Teams call. Assessments score candidates on tasks from the job.
HireVue's stated principle is that AI informs and people decide. Recruiters make the final call, and the AI Interviewer explains why each answer meets or misses the criteria.
On fairness, HireVue says every model passes adverse impact testing before it goes live, using the four-fifths rule, and that models are audited independently each year. It publishes an AI explainability statement and a set of AI ethical principles. It also cites more than 1,300 validation studies, more than 2,000 studies that check its models for fairness, and more than 75 peer-reviewed publications. These are HireVue's own statements.

That last figure sits beside a wider survey from Greenhouse, in which 38% of job seekers said they had walked away from a hiring process because it included an AI interview.
HireVue Pricing 2026
HireVue publishes no price. Its pricing page shows no plans, and the only route to a number is the "Request Demo" button.
Capterra lists a starting price of $35,000 and does not say what that covers. Treat $35,000 a year as the least a HireVue contract would cost.
