Why pre-screen wafer process engineers before the technical loop

Process engineering in a fab is defined by an event rather than a routine: the excursion, when yield drops and the cause is somewhere among equipment drift, a chemical lot, a preventive maintenance that went wrong, or an interaction with an adjacent module. Development experience does not prepare anyone for that, because in development nothing is running at volume while you investigate.     Charts used to make decisions, with a real signal they acted on and the judgement about whether to hold lots while investigating.
