Process basics
How long should a pre-screening round for this role take?
Ten to fifteen minutes across eight to ten questions, answered async, with a portfolio. Enough to establish what reached production, test their material knowledge, and hear about protection and cost constraints.
What should the portfolio show alongside the screen?
Production packs and specifications rather than renders. Concept packaging is common and easy; a designer who can show a structural drawing a converter worked from has been through the difficult part.
Evaluating answers
What is the strongest signal when screening this role?
A pack that failed testing and what they changed. Designers who have shipped have one, because reducing material until something breaks is how the limit gets found. Anyone with no failure has not been near production.
How do I test material knowledge quickly?
Ask what happens to the pack in the customer's recycling. Real answers distinguish between what is technically recyclable and what local facilities actually accept. A compostable claim with no accessible facility is marketing.
