Layout mistakes are permanent in a way most engineering errors are not. Process basics
How long should a pre-screening round for this role take?
Fifteen minutes across eight to ten questions, answered async. Enough to establish plants that were built, test their flow and capacity analysis, and check safety and phasing thinking.
How much industry specificity should I expect?
Considerable. Process, food, pharmaceutical and discrete manufacturing all have different hygiene, containment and segregation requirements, and someone crossing between sectors will need real support on those.

What is the strongest signal when screening this role?
What they would change about a built layout. Engineers who follow their work into operation have that answer. Anyone whose layouts were all correct has not been back to see them running.
How do I judge their flow analysis?
Ask how they size a material route. Real answers cover volumes, vehicle movements and peak conditions. Anyone laying out from equipment footprints alone will produce congestion nobody predicted.
