How The IO Foundation rebuilt hiring after its previous platform vanished

The previous platform went down and disappeared. Soon after, we discovered Hirevire and were able to go back on our feet.

  • One intake process for staff, volunteers, interns, and university club members

What did your hiring process look like before Hirevire?

Before we started using Hirevire, it was all quite manual. We had a previous platform that we used for a while, but they went down. That was our first attempt at a structured approach: one consolidated page for all the opportunities in the organization, plus an admin interface to make sense of the life cycle of each position.

What was the biggest bottleneck in that process?

1:13

The main frustration was not having one single point of reference for all the information required during the hiring process. The bottleneck is always having everything in one place, so that you don't have to keep passing information from one team member to another to express what you think about a possible candidate. The same applies to communicating with the candidate. You have one place where you can see the whole log of those interactions.

What made you decide to try Hirevire?

We simply liked the platform. There was no more mystery than that. We are a small organization, largely self-funded at the time we acquired the platform, so it was quite an investment for us. What we saw was a platform able to provide a very similar experience to what we already had, and in general fulfilling the needs and expectations we had. It didn't have everything we were looking for. However, we saw that the team behind the development were promising and engaged in making the platform improve over time, and we trusted in their capacity to do so. So far they have been delivering.

How does your hiring process work now?

We don't only hire staff. We also recruit volunteers, because we are a for-impact organization and not a corporation. We recruit interns as well as members for clubs that we run in a number of universities. All of that now gives us one single source of truth when it comes to input of information, and it lets us fast track the internal processes for each of those workflows, which otherwise would have required a number of separate platforms to collect that information. It definitely helps us minimize the time we spend comparing different candidates. I would not be able to estimate how many hours have been saved. I can assure there's been quite a considerable amount.

What would you say to a hiring manager who is on the fence?

Just give it a try. It really is a good platform. It's not a perfect platform. It is however a very, very good one that I can vouch for. The developers, and I'm not associated with them or affiliated in any means, definitely listen when you are proposing changes. You have to be proactive and communicative with them, articulate what your needs are, and they will look into it. We are absolutely satisfied ourselves. We don't have any complaints, drawbacks, or negative comments about the platform or the team behind it.
