Why pre-screen space architects before the interview
This field attracts beautiful renderings that no engineer has ever costed. The useful candidates have worked inside a mass budget, argued with a thermal engineer, and had a layout rejected for a reason they can explain. What actually matters when screening Space Architect candidates

Probe habitat design fundamentals: net habitable volume calculations, NASA-STD-3001 human factors limits, radiation shielding mass trades, ECLSS interfaces, and airlock or docking geometry in microgravity or partial gravity.

Process basics
How long should a pre-screening round for this role take?
Fifteen minutes across eight to ten questions, answered async alongside a portfolio. Enough to test real project work, understanding of the constraints, and how they validate a design.
Does terrestrial architecture experience count?
It counts for design skill and for extreme environment work such as polar stations or submersibles. What does not transfer is any assumption about gravity, air, mass or the cost of a mistake.
