Paradox vs HireVue: Chat Scheduling or Video Assessment?

Published on By Sanat Hegde10 min read
Table comparing Paradox and HireVue on four points, showing Paradox texts candidates and books interviews while HireVue records and scores them.

Paradox texts candidates and books their interviews, mostly for hourly jobs. HireVue records and scores interviews and assessments, mostly for professional and graduate jobs. They solve different problems, so the right pick depends on which part of hiring eats your week.

Research: In a Greenhouse survey of 2,950 job seekers, 38% said they had walked away from a hiring process because it included an AI interview (Greenhouse).

What is the difference between Paradox and HireVue?

Paradox handles the conversation and the calendar, and HireVue handles the interview and the test.

Picture a restaurant group hiring crew across 300 stores. An applicant sees a poster and texts the number at 10pm. Paradox's assistant, Olivia, answers their questions, checks they meet the minimum requirements and offers interview times. It works over SMS, WhatsApp, web chat or email. The store manager opens the calendar the next morning and finds the interviews already booked. The Paradox review hub covers the product in full.

Now picture a bank screening 2,000 graduate applicants. HireVue gives every one of them the same interview. An AI interviewer asks questions by voice, or the candidate records video answers and takes a skills test. HireVue scores each answer against criteria the bank sets and explains the score. Recruiters still make the decision, and they start from scored answers they can compare side by side.

Which costs more, Paradox or HireVue?

HireVue costs more on the starting figures available. Neither company publishes a price list, so both sell by quote.

Paradox starts at about $1,000 a month, or $12,000 a year (Capterra). Nobody publishes what that starting plan includes. In plain terms, the money buys Olivia: an assistant that answers applicants day and night, screens them and books interviews with no recruiter involved. The payoff shows up in speed. Chipotle cut its time to hire from 12 days to 4, and 7-Eleven says store leaders get back 40,000 hours a week.

HireVue's entry plan is reported at about $35,000 a year, roughly $2,900 a month (pin.com). The same report puts setup fees at $15,000 to $40,000. That pays for the interview and assessment platform: AI voice interviews, recorded and live video, and skills tests.

Both figures come from third-party sites and neither company has confirmed them, so treat them as a ballpark until you have a quote. The Paradox pricing page has more detail.

Does Paradox do video interviews, and does HireVue schedule interviews?

Paradox does not run video interviews itself. It books the interview, and the call happens on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. A team that wants recorded answers needs a second tool for that step.

HireVue does schedule interviews. Candidates get an invitation by email or SMS, pick a time from the recruiters' shared availability and reschedule when they need to. Scheduling is a side feature at HireVue and the main product at Paradox, as the Paradox interview scheduling guide shows.

Which is better for hourly hiring, and which for professional roles?

Paradox is the better fit for hourly hiring, and HireVue is the better fit for professional and graduate roles.

Hourly applicants apply from a phone between shifts. Paradox lets them finish the whole application in a text thread, which suits a store manager who needs 40 cashiers by Friday. The list of companies that use Paradox is mostly frontline employers.

Professional and graduate hiring turns on evidence of skill. HireVue gives every applicant the same questions and the same scoring, so a small team can compare thousands of people fairly. HireVue says 40% of the Fortune 100 use it.

A small business with 30 hourly hires a year will struggle to justify either contract. The Paradox alternatives page lists tools with published prices.

What do users say about Paradox and HireVue?

Users rate Paradox a little higher, and HireVue has more reviews.

Paradox scores 4.5 out of 5 from 94 reviews on G2 and 4.0 out of 5 from 8 reviews on Capterra. Reviewers praise how well it works with Workday and how helpful the support staff are. The main complaints are that setup takes real effort and the price is high. One reviewer waited two days on average for a support reply.

HireVue scores 4.1 out of 5 from 255 reviews on G2. The praise is about time saved: one hiring manager quoted by HireVue saves 20 minutes per candidate. The main concern raised in public is how its AI scoring treats candidates, which the next section covers.

Is there anything buyers should know before signing?

Each vendor has one public issue on record, and each has responded to it.

For Paradox, it is a 2025 security incident on the hiring site it runs for McDonald's. Two security researchers found that an admin login accepted the password 123456, and records from up to 64 million chatbot applications were accessible (Wired). Paradox says only five candidates' details were viewed, only by the researchers, and that it fixed the problem within hours. It then set up a bug bounty programme. For HireVue, it is the use of AI to assess candidates. HireVue said in January 2021 that it had removed facial analysis from its new assessments. The privacy group EPIC complained to the US Federal Trade Commission in 2019. The ACLU of Colorado filed a discrimination complaint against Intuit and HireVue in 2025. HireVue's chief executive called that complaint "entirely without merit", and no outcome has been made public.

Can you use Paradox and HireVue together?

Yes. A large employer can use Paradox to take applications and book interviews, and HireVue to assess candidates in between. Both connect to the big HR systems (Workday, SAP and Oracle), which pass candidates from one tool to the other.

Five hiring stages showing Paradox covering applications and scheduling, HireVue covering assessment and interviews, and Hirevire covering recorded screening.

The two overlap on scheduling and on career-site chat. Decide which tool owns each of those jobs before signing two contracts.

Is there a simpler option than both?

Yes. Hirevire is the simpler option for a team that only needs recorded screening.

You write a set of questions, which takes minutes, and send candidates a link. They answer by video, audio or text in the browser, with no account or password. You review the answers when it suits you, with AI transcripts and scorecards on every plan. A recruiter with 80 applicants watches 80 short answers and skips 80 phone screens.

Prices are published: $468, $1,188 or $2,388 a year, with a 7-day free trial and no credit card. Hirevire rates 4.7 out of 5 from 30 reviews on G2.

Hirevire does one job, recorded screening, and connects to the rest of your stack. It works with Zapier, Make, LinkedIn, Ashby, Tellent Recruitee, Manatal, Gmail and Pabbly Connect, and its webhooks can pass screened candidates to your calendar tool, your ATS (applicant tracking system, the software that stores your applications) or Paradox.
