8 VideoAsk Alternatives, Ranked by Published Price

Published on By Sanat Hegde27 min read
Bar chart of yearly cost at published prices: Hirevire $468, Truffle $588, Willo Lite $708, Hireflix $900, Interviewer.AI $1,990 and Spark Hire $2,988, with VideoAsk Grow at $288 and VideoAsk at 2,000 minutes a month at $3,312.

The lowest-priced hiring tool to move to from VideoAsk is Hirevire at $468 a year, with a 7-day free trial and no credit card. That pays for one open job and 300 recorded interviews a year, about 25 candidates a month, however long each answer runs. VideoAsk itself costs less at the small end: its Grow plan is $288 a year, but that buys 100 minutes of recorded video a month, and every minute a candidate records counts. Past about 250 candidates a month, or with longer answers, Hirevire costs less. If you use VideoAsk for customer testimonials, Senja at $290 a year is the closer match.

How this list was built: these are eight tools a VideoAsk customer could move to. Six are hiring tools, ranked by published price, lowest first. Two are testimonial tools, for teams that use VideoAsk to collect customer videos. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page and ratings from G2, both checked in October 2026.

Research: VideoAsk customers on G2 report an average of 1 month to implement it, and its pricing page counts minutes every time you or your respondents record video or audio.

What is VideoAsk, and what does it cost today?

VideoAsk is an interactive video tool made by Typeform, the online form company based in Barcelona. You record a short video question, share the link or add a widget to your website, and people answer you with video, audio or text. Answers can branch, so the next question depends on the last reply. Its homepage says 10K+ companies use it, and it is sold for recruitment, lead generation, testimonials, onboarding, research and support.

For hiring, VideoAsk offers one-way interview and job application templates, an interview scheduling template, file upload questions on paid plans, and connections to an applicant tracking system (ATS) such as Greenhouse. It connects to 1,500+ apps through Zapier, and has an API and webhooks on paid plans.

VideoAsk charges by minutes of video or audio processed. Minutes count every time you or your respondents record, including your own question videos and any video replies. Watching is free. Unused minutes do not carry over to the next month.

PlanYearly priceMonthly priceMinutesUsers
StartFreeFree20 a monthUp to 3
Grow$288 ($24 a month)$30 a month100 a month (1,200 a year)Up to 5
BrandFrom $480 ($40 a month)$50 a month200 a month (2,400 a year)Up to 10

Brand customers can buy more minutes. Billed yearly, 350 minutes a month cost $648 a year, 500 cost $888, 750 cost $1,284, 1,000 cost $1,656 and 2,000 cost $3,312. If you go over your limit, VideoAsk keeps processing but asks you to upgrade.

A VideoAsk minute buys one minute of somebody talking. A screening interview with four questions and one-minute answers uses about 4 minutes per candidate, so the Grow plan covers about 25 candidates a month.

Why do teams look for a VideoAsk alternative?

Teams look for a VideoAsk alternative for four reasons.

  1. The bill follows the minutes. A busy hiring month, or candidates who talk for two minutes per answer, pushes you into the next tier, and unused minutes do not roll over.
  2. It is built for many jobs at once. VideoAsk serves marketers, coaches and support teams as well as recruiters, and its plans list no candidate scoring or hiring stages.
  3. The free plan is small. Twenty minutes a month covers about five candidates.
  4. Branching flows take planning. A G2 reviewer who moved to another tool said a good conversation flow took a fair amount of planning to build.

What do VideoAsk users complain about?

VideoAsk is rated 4.5 out of 5 from 14 reviews on G2 and 4.8 out of 5 from 70 reviews on Capterra. Users like how easy it is to set up and how personal video feels. Seven complaints come up in written reviews, most of them from 2021 to 2023.

  1. Paying by the minute. A May 2022 Capterra reviewer says the price rises with the minutes you use, which makes the budget hard to manage. Two December 2021 reviewers name minutes as their main complaint, and a 2023 reviewer says the lower plans have little capacity for high traffic.
  2. A tight free plan. Two December 2021 reviewers say the free version is so limited that you must pay for basic use, and a May 2025 reviewer calls the free plan a bit tight.
  3. Hiring gaps. A May 2022 reviewer, rating it 2 stars, used VideoAsk in a Typeform job application. Many applicants could not upload their videos because of the size limit, and the reviewer could not sort the answers or separate video answers from written ones.
  4. Respondents unsure what happened. An April 2026 G2 reviewer says people could not always tell whether their recording had gone through, and got confused by several prompts. A 2022 G2 reviewer received blank answers when people refused camera or microphone access.
  5. Inaccurate transcripts. The April 2026 G2 reviewer calls the transcription very inaccurate. Two 2021 Capterra reviewers say the captions are not always right and are hard to edit by hand.
  6. Connections that need work. Capterra reviewers from 2021 to 2023 found the HubSpot connection tricky, needed extra software for Keap, and said the API output changed every few months. A March 2024 reviewer says more integrations are still being built.
  7. Email only. A December 2021 reviewer wanted to send text messages as well as email.

How do the alternatives solve these problems?

Each problem has a tool that removes it.

What does each tool cost over a year?

For a small hiring team, VideoAsk Grow costs the least at $288 a year, and Hirevire is the lowest-priced alternative built only for hiring, at $468.

The fair comparison is by how many candidates you screen. This table assumes four questions with one-minute answers, so about 4 VideoAsk minutes per candidate, and yearly billing on both.

Candidates a monthVideoAsk minutes a monthVideoAsk plan and yearly costHirevire plan and yearly costDifference
25100Grow, $288Essentials, $468VideoAsk costs $180 less

1,0004,000Above the largest listed tierAgency, $2,388Hirevire saves at least $924

Answer length changes the picture. If candidates talk for two minutes per answer, 8 minutes each, 100 candidates use 800 minutes a month. That needs VideoAsk's 1,000-minute tier at $1,656, so Hirevire Professional at $1,188 saves $468 (28%). At 250 candidates and two-minute answers, VideoAsk needs the 2,000-minute tier at $3,312, and Hirevire Agency saves $924 (28%).

So on price alone, VideoAsk is the cheaper choice for a small team with short answers. Hirevire costs less once you screen a few hundred candidates a month, or when answers run long, and it adds the hiring tools VideoAsk leaves to you.

1. Hirevire

Hirevire is async screening software: you write the questions once, and candidates record video, audio or text answers in their own time. They answer in the browser with no account or password. A question set takes minutes to build, AI can write the questions for you, and you can record an intro video so candidates see who they are talking to. Each question has its own thinking time and retake setting, and answers can run up to 5 minutes.

The price counts interviews, so a long answer costs the same as a short one. Every plan includes AI transcripts in 90+ languages and AI scorecards that show the reasoning behind each score, so a reviewer can see why one answer scored higher than another. Candidates who miss a must-have requirement can be filtered out before they record. You can ask a follow-up question after watching an answer, without booking a call. Screen recording and file upload questions let a designer walk you through a portfolio or send a sample.

Invites and reminders go out by email and SMS on every plan, and you can invite a whole list from a CSV file. The Professional and Agency plans send email from your own mail server and add a career page and branded links to share candidates with hiring managers. On the Agency plan, Deep Search finds a candidate by anything they said, across transcripts, resumes, notes and files, and webhooks send each response to any system you run.

VideoAsk Grow gives 5 users for $288 a year, against 1 user on Hirevire Essentials. A team of three that shares one role should compare Hirevire Professional, or keep VideoAsk if its volume stays low. A side-by-side sits on the VideoAsk vs Hirevire page.

2. Truffle

Truffle screens resumes, runs talent assessments and collects recorded interview answers, then gives each candidate an AI match score, a summary and what it calls Candidate Shorts. You pay with credits: a resume costs 1 credit, an assessed candidate 2 and a completed video interview 5. All three of its talent assessments are included.

Like VideoAsk, it draws on one monthly pool. The pool counts candidates, so a long answer costs the same as a short one. Every plan has unlimited positions and team members, and a 7-day free trial with 30 credits and no card. On Core and Team, unused credits roll over for 12 months and extra credits cost 25 cents each.

Watch out forInterviews use 5 credits each, so a month heavy on interviews uses the pool quickly

Truffle gives more interviews for the money at the small end: Starter's 200 credits cover about 40 video interviews a month for $49, against Hirevire Essentials' 25 a month for $39.

3. Willo

Willo is a one-way interview tool where candidates answer with video, audio, text or file uploads. You pay for each live role each month, with no contract, so a role that is open for two months costs $118. Each live role includes 150 assessed candidates, so answer length does not change the bill.

Lite covers up to 5 live roles. Enterprise starts at $3,799 a year, billed annually, with a quote tailored to your hiring.

4. Hireflix

Hireflix does one thing: one-way video interviews. You build the interview once and invite as many candidates as you want, by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Candidates need no app and no registration.

Every plan has unlimited user seats, positions and interview responses, so there is no counter to watch. It connects to Greenhouse, Lever, BambooHR, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and other ATS platforms, and to other apps through Zapier and Make. Hireflix is cheaper than Hirevire Professional for a company under 50 employees that keeps more than five roles open: $900 against $1,188.

5. Interviewer.AI

Interviewer.AI runs one-way video interviews and has an AI score every answer for how well it addresses the question. The Professional plan adds a conversational AI avatar that asks follow-up questions. You buy interview credits: a recorded interview uses one credit, a conversation with the AI avatar uses two, and unused credits roll over to the next month.

That makes it the closest priced match for a VideoAsk user who liked branching conversations and wants the follow-up questions asked for them.

6. Spark Hire

Spark Hire sells one-way and live video interviews, an ATS called Spark Hire Recruit and a behavioural assessment. The annual video plan has unlimited one-way and live interviews, unlimited jobs and unlimited users. Paid monthly, it covers up to 5 jobs and 5 users.

VideoAsk Grow includes live calls, so Spark Hire is the published-price choice for a team that wants live and recorded interviews in a tool built for hiring. The price varies by company size, so the figure on the page is a starting point.

Which tools replace VideoAsk for testimonials?

Many VideoAsk customers use it to collect customer videos. Many of its G2 reviewers do. For that job, a hiring tool is the wrong fit, and two testimonial tools are worth a look.

7. Senja

Senja collects video and text testimonials through a form, imports reviews from 18 other sites, and shows them on your website in widgets and a "Wall of Love". The free plan collects 15 testimonials. Starter removes Senja's branding, lifts the limit and adds custom domains, Zapier, an API and webhooks.

At $290 a year it costs about the same as VideoAsk Grow, with no minute counter on what customers record.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 22 reviews on G2.

8. Vocal Video

Vocal Video collects testimonial videos from a link and turns the raw clips into finished, branded videos with music, subtitles and motion graphics. Respondents record on any device with nothing to download. It also sells a hiring use case for video interviews, although most customers use it for marketing and employer brand videos.

How do you switch from VideoAsk to Hirevire?

Switching takes four steps.

  1. Download the answers you must keep from VideoAsk, and write down the questions in each videoask you use for hiring, including any branching. Note when your plan renews.
  2. Create a job in Hirevire for each open role and add those questions. A question set takes minutes to build, and each question can ask for video, audio, text, a file or a screen recording, with its own thinking time and retake setting. Record an intro video, and write your hiring criteria into the AI scorecard so every answer is scored against the same standard.
  3. Share the new link wherever the VideoAsk link sat: your job posts, career page or application emails. Candidates record in the browser, with no account and no password. For a list of people already in your pipeline, upload a CSV and Hirevire sends the invites by email and SMS, with automatic reminders.
  4. Connect the tools you already use. Zapier, Make, Pabbly Connect, Ashby, Tellent Recruitee and Manatal work on every plan, so a candidate who passes the screen can be booked in your calendar tool and updated in your ATS.

A team that runs Greenhouse, Lever or another ATS can send screened candidates to it through Zapier and Make where the ATS has a connector, or through webhooks on the Agency plan.

Applicants from Indeed, Naukri, Monster, Shine.com, foundit and ZipRecruiter get your video interview invite when you add your Hirevire link to the posting or forward their application email. Teams that keep VideoAsk for testimonials or sales can run both side by side. For a question about your own setup, write to [email protected].

What should you check before leaving VideoAsk?

Check five things before you move.

  1. What you use VideoAsk for. If hiring is one use among several, such as testimonials, lead capture and support, you may keep VideoAsk for those and move only hiring.
  2. How many minutes you use. VideoAsk's billing page shows your monthly processing. Divide it by the minutes each candidate uses to get your candidates a month, then find that row in the table above.
  3. How many people review answers. VideoAsk Grow includes 5 users. Hirevire Essentials includes 1, Professional 5 and Agency 15.
  4. Whether you rely on branching. VideoAsk can send each person down a different path. In Hirevire, every candidate for a job answers the same question set, which keeps the screen fair and the answers easy to compare, and candidates who miss a must-have requirement are filtered out before they record.
  5. Whether you take payments or bookings inside the video. VideoAsk collects payments through Stripe and books appointments on every plan. Hirevire connects to your calendar tool through Zapier and Make.

When is VideoAsk still the right choice?

VideoAsk is still the right choice in four cases.

  • You screen fewer than about 250 candidates a month and answers stay short, so its minutes cost less than any hiring plan.
  • You use one tool for hiring, testimonials, lead capture and support, and want them all in one account.
  • You want branching conversations, live calls, payments or bookings inside the same video flow.
  • You already run Typeform and want video answers in your Typeform forms.

Should you stay with VideoAsk, switch, or pick another tool?
