8 VidCruiter Alternatives, Ranked by Published Price

Published on By Sanat Hegde24 min read
Bar chart of yearly cost at published prices: Hirevire $468, Truffle $588, Willo Lite $708, Hireflix $900, Interviewer.AI $1,990, Spark Hire $2,988 and VidCruiter from $5,000 as listed on Capterra.

The lowest-priced VidCruiter alternative is Hirevire at $468 a year, with a 7-day free trial and no credit card. That pays for one open job and 300 recorded interviews a year, which is about 25 candidates a month. VidCruiter publishes no price, and Capterra lists its starting price at $5,000 a year, so Hirevire costs $4,532 less (91% less). A team that needs live interviews, reference checks and an applicant tracking system (ATS) from one vendor at a published price should look at Spark Hire, from $2,988 a year. Six of the eight tools here publish a price, and those six are ranked by price, lowest first.

How this list was built: these are eight interview tools a VidCruiter customer could move to. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page and ratings from G2, both checked in October 2026.

Research: VidCruiter customers on G2 report an average of 2 months to implement it and 8 months to see a return on it.

What is VidCruiter, and what does it cost today?

VidCruiter is interview software for enterprise and high-volume hiring, based in Moncton, Canada. It calls itself an interview management system. Hiring teams use it to plan, schedule, run and score interviews in a structured way, so every candidate gets the same questions and every interviewer scores against the same rubric. Its homepage says more than 150,000 recruiters use it.

It is sold in modules. The pricing page lists nine: pre-recorded video interviews, live video interviews, interview scheduling, structured interviews, automated references, virtual hiring events, skills testing, video proctoring and an ATS. On top of those sit AI features: scoring each recorded answer against a rubric, interview notes and summaries, transcripts in English and French, and checks for candidate fraud.

VidCruiter does not publish a price. You fill in a form on its pricing page and sales comes back with a quote. Capterra lists a starting price of $5,000 a year, usage based.

$5,000 a year buys a starting point. Each extra module, such as live interviews, scheduling or reference checks, moves the quote up.

Why do teams look for a VidCruiter alternative?

Teams look for a VidCruiter alternative for four reasons.

  1. You cannot see the price before a sales call. A small team that wants to compare tools has to fill in a form for every quote.
  2. The starting price is high for a small team. $5,000 a year is more than ten times Hirevire's lowest plan.
  3. Setup takes weeks. G2 reviewers report an average of 2 months to implement VidCruiter, which is long for a team that needs to screen candidates this month.
  4. It is built for large, structured hiring programmes. A team with two roles open often uses a small part of what it pays for.

What do VidCruiter users complain about?

VidCruiter is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 282 reviews on G2 and 4.6 out of 5 from 125 reviews on Capterra. Most reviewers are happy, and many praise the support team. Six complaints come up in written reviews on Capterra.

  1. It is hard to learn. A 2022 reviewer calls it the most convoluted software they have used. Another reviewer that year says there are so many options that you cannot set it up yourself without the support team, and a 2020 reviewer says the many features make it confusing.
  2. Gaps in connections to other tools. Four reviewers in June 2025 raise this. One wants a better link to Workday, one says it does not connect to their ATS the way they hoped, one names the missing HubSpot connection as their one big blocker and asks for Zapier or n8n, and one wants more CRM and background check connections.
  3. Search. A 2019 reviewer cannot search the words inside collected resumes, and a 2022 reviewer wants to find candidates by how they did in a specific interview.
  4. Candidates who cannot finish. A 2018 reviewer says glitches sometimes stop applicants from completing a video answer, and a 2020 reviewer says having to download an app put some candidates off.
  5. Candidates who will not record video. A 2017 reviewer says some candidates have no webcam, and some drop out when the interview must be on video.
  6. Language. A 2025 reviewer wants answers translated into the language of their choice.

How do the alternatives solve these problems?

Each problem has a tool that removes it.

What does each tool cost over a year?

Hirevire costs the least, at $468 a year. Every priced tool here costs less than VidCruiter's listed $5,000 starting price.

Hirevire Essentials$468$4,532 (91%)1 open job, 1 user, 300 interviews a year
Truffle Starter$588$4,412 (88%)200 credits a month, about 40 video interviews

Spark Hire, video annual$2,988$2,012 (40%)Unlimited one-way and live interviews, jobs and users

Bar chart of yearly cost at published prices: Hirevire $468, Truffle $588, Willo Lite $708, Hireflix $900, Interviewer.AI $1,990, Spark Hire $2,988 and VidCruiter from $5,000 as listed on Capterra.

These savings are against the lowest figure anyone lists for VidCruiter. A quote with live interviews, scheduling and references added will be higher, so the real gap is wider.

Truffle is cheaper than Hirevire for each interview at the small end. Truffle Starter's 200 credits cover about 40 video interviews a month for $49, against Hirevire Essentials' 25 a month for $39. Hirevire's lowest plan costs less in total, and Truffle gives more interviews for the money.

1. Hirevire

Hirevire is async screening software: you write the questions once, and candidates record video, audio or text answers in their own time. They answer in the browser with no account or password. A question set takes minutes to build, and you can record an intro video so candidates see who they are talking to.

Every plan includes AI transcripts in 90+ languages and AI scorecards that show the reasoning behind each score, so a reviewer can see why one answer scored higher than another. Candidates who miss a must-have requirement can be filtered out before they record. You can ask a follow-up question after watching an answer, without booking a call.

Hiring stages are yours to define, and an email can go out automatically when a candidate moves stage. On the Agency plan, Deep Search finds a candidate by anything they said, across transcripts, resumes, notes and files, and webhooks send each response to any system you run.

2. Truffle

Truffle screens resumes, runs talent assessments and collects recorded interview answers, then gives each candidate an AI match score, a summary and what it calls Candidate Shorts. You pay with credits: a resume costs 1 credit, an assessed candidate 2 and a video interview 5.

Every plan has unlimited positions and team members, ATS and Zapier connections, and a 7-day free trial with 30 credits and no card. Starter is billed monthly only and stops at its credit limit, so there is no surprise bill.

Lite covers up to 5 live roles and 5 users, with 150 assessed candidates per role, custom scorecards and 18+ languages. Enterprise starts at $3,799 a year and adds the ATS connections, reporting and governance that a VidCruiter customer is used to.

It connects to Lever, BambooHR, Teamtailor, Recruitee, SmartRecruiters, Greenhouse, Workable and Ashby, and to other apps through Zapier and Make. 5. Interviewer.AI

Interviewer.AI runs one-way video interviews and has an AI score every answer for how well it addresses the question. The Professional plan adds interview fraud checks and a conversational AI avatar that asks follow-up questions, which is the closest priced match for VidCruiter's AI scoring and fraud detection.

You buy interview credits. A recorded AI video interview uses one credit, a conversation with the AI avatar uses two, and unused credits roll over.

The video plan has unlimited one-way and live interviews. The price varies by company size, so the figure on the page is a starting point.

How do you switch from VidCruiter to Hirevire?

Switching takes four steps.

  1. Check when your VidCruiter contract renews, and copy the questions and rating guides from your structured interviews. Download the interviews and scorecards you must keep for audits before the contract ends.
  2. Create the same job in Hirevire and add those questions. A question set takes minutes to build, and each question can ask for video, audio, text, a file or a screen recording. Write your rubric into the AI scorecard criteria so every answer is scored against the same standard.
  3. Share the new link with candidates. They record in the browser, with no account and no password. For a list of people already in your pipeline, upload a CSV and Hirevire sends the invites, with automatic reminders.
  4. Connect the tools you already use. Zapier, Make, Pabbly Connect, Ashby, Tellent Recruitee and Manatal work on every plan, so a candidate who passes the screen can be booked in your calendar tool and updated in your ATS, CRM or HubSpot.

A team that runs Workday, SAP SuccessFactors or another large ATS can send screened candidates to it through webhooks on the Agency plan, or through Zapier and Make where the ATS has a connector.

Applicants from Indeed, Naukri, Monster, Shine.com, foundit and ZipRecruiter get your video interview invite when you add your Hirevire link to the posting or forward their application email. For a question about your own setup, write to [email protected].

What should you check before leaving VidCruiter?

Check five things before you move.

  1. Which VidCruiter modules you use. A team that only runs recorded interviews can move to any tool here. A team that also runs live interviews, scheduling, reference checks and skills tests in VidCruiter should compare Spark Hire and Jobma, or keep those modules and add a screening tool.
  2. What your audits need. VidCruiter keeps structured scorecards and records for regulated hiring. List what you must store and for how long, then check each alternative. Hirevire stores videos for 90 days, and that can be extended with an add-on.
  3. How many candidates you screen each month. Hirevire covers 25, 100 or 1,000 interviews a month depending on the plan. Hireflix and Spark Hire's annual plan are unlimited.
  4. Whether you need live video calls. VidCruiter, Spark Hire and Jobma run live interviews in the same tool. Hirevire connects to your calendar and video call tools through Zapier and Make.
  5. Which systems must stay connected. VidCruiter names connectors for Dayforce, Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, ADP, UKG and SmartRecruiters. List the ones you use, then check each alternative's plan for them.

When is VidCruiter still the right choice?

VidCruiter is still the right choice in four cases.

  • You hire in a regulated sector, such as government or healthcare, and must show that every candidate got the same questions and was scored on the same rubric.
  • You run thousands of interviews across sites and want scheduling, live interviews, references and skills tests from one vendor.
  • Your ATS is Dayforce, Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, ADP or UKG, and you want a connector that VidCruiter builds and supports.
  • You hire in English and French and want AI notes and transcripts in both.
