What you'll accomplish
Restore access to your application links when your custom domain stops loading. This guide walks you through refreshing your domain connection to resolve loading failures and DNS configuration issues.
When to use this guide
Use these steps if you experience:
Application links that fail to load or show browser errors like "site can't be reached"
Your domain status shows "Not configured" in the Domains panel
Candidates reporting they can't access your application page
Links working intermittently after recent DNS changes
If you haven't set up a custom domain yet, start with Use your own custom domain or subdomain for application and career page links to configure your domain first.
Step 1: Check your domain status
Navigate to your Profile page and select the Domains tab. Look for your domain's status indicator:
Green checkmark ("Configured"): Domain is active. Skip to Step 4 to test your link.
Red X ("Not configured"): DNS records need attention. Continue to Step 2.
Open an incognito or private browser window to test your application link without cached DNS records affecting the result.
Step 2: Delete your custom domain
Removing and re-adding your domain refreshes the connection and resolves stale configurations.
In the Domains tab, locate your custom domain.
Click the Delete button next to the domain.
Confirm the deletion in the popup modal.
After deletion, your application links will temporarily use the default hirevire.com subdomain (e.g., https://app.hirevire.com/applications/...). Active candidates can still access links during this process.
Step 3: Re-add your custom domain
In the same Domains tab, enter your domain in the input field (e.g., careers.yourcompany.com or yourcompany.com).
Click Add.
The system displays DNS records you need to configure:
Subdomain (e.g., careers.yourcompany.com): Add a CNAME record pointing to
hirevire.liveApex domain (e.g., yourcompany.com): We would not recommend using your apex or main domain to point to Hirevire, since this would most likely have your existing marketing website.
Copy the DNS records and add them in your domain provider's dashboard (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).
Return to Hirevire and click Refresh to check the status.
DNS propagation typically takes a few minutes but can take up to 12 hours depending on your provider. The status will change to "Configured" with a green checkmark once propagation completes.
Step 4: Verify your application link loads
After your domain status shows "Configured," test your application link:
Navigate to Jobs and select an active job.
Copy the application link (it should now use your custom domain).
Open the link in an incognito or private browser window.
Confirm the application page loads correctly for candidates.
If the page loads, your custom domain is working! Share the link with candidates or post it to job boards.
Step 5: Check DNS propagation (if still not loading)
If your link doesn't load after re-adding the domain, DNS changes may not have propagated globally yet.
Visit dnschecker.org or whatsmydns.net.
Enter your custom domain and check the DNS records across multiple locations.
Verify the records match what Hirevire displays in the Domains panel:
CNAME should point to
hirevire.live
If records don't match, double-check your DNS provider's settings and allow more time for propagation.
Some DNS providers cache old records. Clear your local DNS cache or wait 30 minutes before testing again.
Still having issues?
If your custom domain still won't load after following these steps:
Verify you're on a paid plan. Custom domains require an active subscription.
Contact support with your domain name and a screenshot of your Domains panel for further assistance.
How this helps high-volume teams
Refreshing your domain connection resolves common loading failures caused by DNS misconfiguration or propagation delays. High-volume hiring teams rely on custom domains for brand consistency—this process restores link access quickly so candidates can complete applications without interruption.
