Troubleshoot custom domain link loading
If your custom domain stops loading, candidates may see browser errors like "site can't be reached" or a blank page. Restore access by refreshing the domain connection in Hirevire and re-checking your DNS records.
Symptoms
You'll know your custom domain needs attention when:
Application links show a "site can't be reached" or DNS error
The domain status in Hirevire shows a red indicator or "Not configured"
Candidates report they cannot access your application page
Links work intermittently after recent DNS changes
If you haven't set up a custom domain yet, start with Use your own custom domain or subdomain for application and career page links before following this guide.
Fix your custom domain
Remove and re-add the domain in Hirevire to refresh the connection, then verify the DNS records.
Step 1: Check the domain status
Open the dropdown in the top-right corner of Hirevire, go to My account, and select the Domains tab. Check the status next to your domain:
Green checkmark ("Configured"): The domain is active. Go to Step 4 to test the link.
Red indicator ("Not configured"): DNS records need attention. Continue to Step 2.
Open an incognito or private browser window to test your application link without cached DNS records affecting the result.
Step 2: Delete the domain
Deleting the domain clears stale configurations so you can start fresh.
In the Domains tab, find your custom domain.
Click the Delete button next to it.
Confirm the deletion in the modal.
After deletion, application links temporarily use the default app.hirevire.com domain. Active candidates can still access their links.
Step 3: Re-add the domain and update DNS
In the Domains tab, enter your domain or subdomain (for example,
careers.yourcompany.com).Click Add.
Copy the DNS records shown in the DNS CONFIGURATION section:
Subdomain (for example,
careers.yourcompany.com): Add a CNAME record pointing tohirevire.live.Apex domain (for example,
yourcompany.com): We do not recommend pointing your apex domain to Hirevire, since it likely already hosts your marketing website.
Paste the records into your domain provider's DNS settings (for example, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare).
Return to Hirevire and click Refresh to check the status.
DNS propagation typically takes a few minutes but can take up to 12 hours depending on your provider. The status changes to "Configured" once propagation completes.
Step 4: Verify the application link
After the domain status shows "Configured," confirm the link works for candidates.
Go to Jobs and select an active job.
Copy the application link (it should now use your custom domain).
Open the link in an incognito or private browser window.
Confirm the application page loads correctly.
If the page loads, your custom domain is working. Share the link with candidates or post it to job boards.
Step 5: Check DNS propagation if the link still fails
If the page does not load, the DNS records may not have propagated everywhere yet.
Visit dnschecker.org or whatsmydns.net.
Enter your custom domain and check the records across multiple locations.
Verify the CNAME points to
hirevire.live.If the records do not match, double-check your DNS provider settings and allow more time.
Some DNS providers cache old records. Clear your local DNS cache or wait 30 minutes before testing again.
