Why do I have to do a video and audio test?
The video and audio test checks that your camera and microphone are working before you start recording your responses. This prevents technical issues that could cause your submission to fail.
You'll only see this test if the job application requires video, audio, or screenshare responses—text-only applications skip it entirely.
The test takes about 10 seconds. You'll confirm your hardware is set up correctly.
What the test checks
The test verifies:
Your camera is connected and working
Your microphone captures audio clearly
Your browser has permission to access both devices
If you see a permissions prompt during the test, click "Allow." Without camera and microphone access, you won't be able to submit video or audio responses.
Troubleshooting test issues
If the test won't start or shows an error:
Refresh the page and try again
Check that no other apps are using your camera or microphone
Try a different browser or device
For detailed help with permissions, see How to enable camera and microphone access.
Once you pass the test, you can use features like thinking time and retakes on your actual responses. Learn more in How Thinking Time and Retakes Work in Interviews.
