Viewing candidate IP and location in applications

Overview

When candidates submit their applications, Hirevire automatically captures their IP address and geographic location. You can view this information directly in the application details to help with candidate verification, fraud prevention, or understanding your applicant pool's geographic distribution.

IP address and location data is only available for applications with "Submitted" status. This feature is included in all subscription plans and requires no additional setup.

How to view candidate IP and location

Step 1: Open the application details

  1. Navigate to Jobs in your sidebar

  2. Select the job you want to review

  3. Click the Applications tab

  4. Click on any submitted application card to open the details view

You can also use the Previous and Next arrows in the application details view to quickly navigate between candidates without returning to the applications list.

Step 2: Locate the submission metadata

In the application details header, you'll see the submission timestamp with the candidate's location displayed like this:

Submitted on [Date] • [City], [Country]

For example: "Submitted on Dec 24, 2025, 08:02 AM • Houston, US"

Screenshot of Hirevire application details page header showing 'NEW' badge, 'Submitted on Dec 24, 2025, 08:02 AM • Houston, US' timestamp with location, and IP tooltip 'From IP - 172.69.168.179' on hover over location. Includes blurred applicant email/mobile, job title 'Substitute Teacher - Greater Houston Area (Texas)', and partial 'QUESTION' section.

Step 3: View the IP address

Hover your cursor over the location text (e.g., "Houston, US") to reveal a tooltip showing the full IP address:

From IP - [IP address]

On mobile devices, tap the location text to display the IP address tooltip.

Common use cases

Verifying candidate authenticity

Check if the candidate's location matches the information they provided in their application or resume. Significant discrepancies may warrant follow-up questions.

Understanding your talent pool

Review location data across multiple applications to see where your candidates are applying from, especially useful for remote positions or roles requiring relocation.

Fraud detection

Identify suspicious patterns like multiple applications from the same IP address or locations that don't align with job requirements.

VPNs, proxies, and privacy tools may cause location data to appear inaccurate or prevent it from displaying. If location or IP information is missing, this is often the reason.

Copying IP addresses for external lookups

If you need to perform additional research on an IP address using external tools:

  1. Hover over the location text to display the IP tooltip

  2. Manually select and copy the IP address from the tooltip text

  3. Paste into your preferred IP lookup service (such as IPinfo.io or WhatIsMyIPAddress.com)

When IP and location data isn't available

In some cases, you may not see location or IP information for a candidate:

  • Application status: Only submitted applications show this data. Draft or incomplete applications won't display IP/location

  • Privacy tools: Candidates using VPNs, ad blockers, or privacy-focused browsers may block IP collection

  • Network restrictions: Corporate firewalls or proxy servers can prevent accurate location capture

When data is unavailable, the header will only show the submission timestamp without location details.

Permissions and access

To view candidate IP and location data, you need:

  • An active Hirevire subscription

  • Access to the specific job (as job owner, admin, or team member)

IP and location data is not included in CSV exports. You can only view this information within the Hirevire application details view.
