Add standard response questions to a job post
Updated today
Standard Responses questions collect typed answers (text, numbers, links, email addresses, dates, and multiple choice), and every candidate answers them before any video, audio, or file questions. This article covers adding one, choosing its response type, and the settings that apply to the Standard Responses section.
Open the Questions editor
Go to your Jobs list and open the job you want to edit.
Click Edit to open the Edit job page.
Click the Questions step at the top of the form.
Add a standard response question
The Standard Responses section holds these questions, below its own add button. When the section is empty, click Add questions; once it has at least one question, click Add new.
Under Standard Responses, click Add questions (or Add new if the section already has questions).
Enter your question in the Question text field.
Select a Response type from the dropdown.
Tick Required if candidates must answer the question.
Instead of typing each question yourself, you can open the add menu next to the add button and choose Add from library to reuse a saved question, Import questions to paste existing questions, or Add using AI to generate questions from the job title.
Choose the response type
The Response type dropdown offers nine types:
Text (single line): short free-text answers, such as "Where did you hear about us?"
Number: numeric answers, such as years of experience or expected salary.
URL: a web link, such as a portfolio or LinkedIn profile.
Email: a valid email address.
Checkbox: candidates can tick several options, such as "Which languages do you speak?"
Multiple Choice: candidates pick one option from a visible list.
Dropdown: candidates pick one option from a dropdown menu.
Date: a date, such as an earliest start date.
Internet Speed Test: candidates run a speed check, useful for remote roles.
Add answer options to choice questions
Checkbox, Multiple Choice, and Dropdown questions need a list of options candidates choose from.
Select Checkbox, Multiple Choice, or Dropdown as the response type.
Enter the text for each choice in the Options rows.
Click Add Option for each additional choice.
Every option needs text, and at least one option row must remain: saving a blank option fails with "Please enter option". Use the delete control on an option row to remove a choice you no longer need.
Set the answering time for all standard responses
Standard responses share one section-wide time limit; there is no per-question timer on standard question cards.
In the Standard Responses section, click the edit button next to Answering time for all standard responses.
Enter the limit in the Minutes field, or switch on No limit.
Click Save.
With a time limit set, candidates must submit within the time limit, or the response will be locked and uneditable.
Score standard responses and auto-disqualify
In the scoring section below the question sections, Enable Scoring for Standard Responses lets you assign each standard question a Must have or Good to have impact and set the conditions for it. Turning on Auto-disqualify Applicants requires at least one must-have question first; disqualified candidates are stopped before media questions.
For the full setup, see Auto-Disqualify Applicants Who Don't Meet Must-Have Criteria.
What candidates see
Candidates answer all standard response questions together as one group before they reach the first media question. Questions can't be moved between the Standard Responses and Media Responses sections by dragging.
Standard response questions don't support the additional information (help text, audio, video) that media questions do. To give candidates extra context, include it in the question text itself. The help text workflow is media-only: see Add more details to each question.
