Fix WhatsApp link preview showing old job title

When you share a Hirevire job link on WhatsApp, the preview card (title and image) may show outdated information even after you've updated the job title. This happens because WhatsApp caches link previews and doesn't automatically refresh them when the underlying page changes.

Why this happens

WhatsApp fetches and stores the preview metadata (Open Graph tags) the first time a link is shared. This caching improves performance but means changes to your job title, description, or image won't appear in the preview until the cache is cleared.

The fastest workaround is to make WhatsApp treat your link as a new URL by adding a query parameter.

  1. Copy your job application link (e.g., https://app.hirevire.com/applications/607d0db7-0640-47ef-9d1a-33fa63e22059)

  2. Add a question mark followed by any text or number at the end (e.g., ?1 or ?v2)

  3. Share the modified link on WhatsApp

Example:

  • Original: https://app.hirevire.com/applications/3753fb41-ab86-456e-9973-7da38f6ce326

  • Modified: https://app.hirevire.com/applications/3753fb41-ab86-456e-9973-7da38f6ce326?1

This works because WhatsApp sees the modified URL as a new link and fetches fresh metadata from Hirevire. The query parameter doesn't affect the application page—candidates see the same content.

Solution 2: Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger

For a more permanent fix, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger to force WhatsApp to refresh its cache.

  1. Go to the Facebook Sharing Debugger

  2. Paste your Hirevire job link in the input field

  3. Click Debug to see the current cached preview

  4. Click Scrape Again to force a refresh

  5. Share your link on WhatsApp—the preview should now show the updated job title

WhatsApp uses Facebook's link preview infrastructure, which is why the Facebook Debugger tool works for WhatsApp links as well.

Which solution should you use?

  • Query parameter (Solution 1): Best for quick, one-time shares or when you need an immediate fix

  • Facebook Debugger (Solution 2): Best when you want to refresh the cache for the original URL, especially if the link has already been shared widely

Preventing this in the future

If you're planning to update a job title or other details that appear in social previews:

  • Update the job details before sharing the link for the first time

  • If you've already shared the link, use the Facebook Debugger immediately after making changes
