Use columns, tables, and background-image blocks in the editor

Our rich-text editor includes three layout tools: Insert columns, Insert a table, and Text block with a background image. Use them to arrange text in columns, present structured information in rows, and place text over an image in the content candidates read.

Where the layout tools are available

The three controls appear in the toolbar of four editors, and the layouts you build render on the corresponding candidate-facing pages:

• Candidate instructions, shown on the job application page.

• Question additional information (help text), shown on the question page.

• Careers-page header and footer text, shown on the careers page.

• Thank-you page content, shown on the thank-you page.

The layout tools are not available in candidate written answers, the rubric editor, or the separate email subject and body editors.

Insert and edit columns

Column sections hold text side by side in two or three columns, and you choose how they behave on phones.

1. Place the cursor in the editor where you want the column section.

2. In the toolbar, click Insert columns.

3. Click into the column section to change the number of columns and to set its phone behavior.

4. Choose how the columns appear on phones:

   • Stack shows the columns one below the other.

   • Wrap lets the columns flow onto multiple rows.

   • Scroll shows the columns side by side with horizontal scrolling.

Insert and edit a table

Tables present information in rows and columns, with an optional header row.

1. Place the cursor in the editor where you want the table.

2. In the toolbar, click Insert a table. The inserted table is three columns wide with a header row.

3. Click into the table to see its controls.

4. Use the controls to add or delete rows and columns, toggle the header row on or off, and delete the table.

Add a text block with a background image

A background block places text over an image, with control over the image, spacing, and how the text sits inside the block.

1. Place the cursor in the editor where you want the block.

2. In the toolbar, click Text block with a background image.

3. Click into the block to see its controls.

4. Replace the background image and set the block height, padding, and overlay.

5. Choose light or dark text, and set the horizontal alignment (left, center, right) and vertical alignment (top, middle, bottom) of the text.

6. To remove the background image while keeping the text, use the control that removes the background.
